August 04 College friend getting married Yesterday, when I opened QQ, a message from a college friend popped up: "when are coming back? my wedding is Jan 3, 2009". Thats great news. I've been teasing her about when she can get married. Then suddenly, finally, she made the decision. They've been dating for quite a while, so it's the time. I'm really glad about that. But, I'm frowned at myself, seeing three friends married after I came to Vancouver. When will be my turn? Mother says: 加拿大,艰难大. Somehow there's truth in the words. I and many others that moved here start almost everything from zero, find a job, survive, save money, buy a car, save more money, get married, save even more money, buy a house, have children... it takes a long while and many efforts to actually get to one step. Anyways C'est La Vie! A side story: There is an intern from Vancouver Island Univ. in my office now, named Mary. She's from Zhejiang. So we had a brief conversation at lunch. Her family isn't here. I asked: do you miss home? She answered: hmmmm, no, i have boyfriend here. She's shy, but i didn't expect she's so straightforward. LOL, she probably got hit on quite a bit and thus decided to be so blunt. August 01 El espanol es muy dificil Tonight I had my fourth lesson of Espanol level two. Now it's getting harder and harder. It's frustrating sometimes because it's quite different from English and Chinese. And there are lots of syllables in spanish words, driving me crazy. We've learned so many words but I haven't memorized them enough. And each class brings new words.....geeeeeee I think I need a break when level two is done, sit down, review and practice. Let me reflect upon what we have gone through since July 10: Primer leccion - colors, clothes, seasons Segunda leccion - different parts of the body, the verb doler & gustar Tercer leccion - lo, la, los, las; practice o-ue, i-e conjugation Cuarto leccion - practice o-ue, e-i, i-e conjugation, present progressive(-ing), reflexive object pronouns & verbs. spanish reflexive structures are weird & long, very different from english. Gotta work harder! Can't give up! July 14 Two Years As of today, July 13th, I have been in Vancouver for 2 years. Time really flies. Two years ago, around 1:30pm, I landed at the International Airport. I was happy to feel the fresh and a bit chilly air. Three hours later, I was up on SFU campus and amazed by the sceneries. Last year, 2007, I think I was cramming for homework painfully. It wasn't that pleasant but thatz okay, cuz it's life. This year, 2008, I got back from swimming and prepared lunch around 1:30pm. The weather was very nice today. Good for the 2nd anniversary. What would I do next year? I think I miss my frds in Gwongchow. But I don't think I miss the place. July 10 Fucking retarded!I was retarded today! like fucking retarded! I didn't bring my work permit for identification, so i couldn't take the test. I assumed they didn't really care and a passport should be enough. But sometimes you just can't be fucking lazy! It's a rule then you just can't escape. They don't give a shit about your passport, but care more about your permit. Fuck that! Fucking retarded ! I stayed up till 1:30 in the morning to cram for the test. I took the crowded skytrain to go to your test center after work, got a waiting ticket and waited for fucking 35 mins. Then you fucking told me I have to come back with my work permit! FUCK! Fucking silly rules, and fucking retarded me! And it fucking sucks being a foreigner. July 08 Helping, hangout, necklace...voice lesson So she and me hung out again on Sat. This time, she asked to help her translate a written intro of her faculty into chinese. The translation wasn't easy! It was quite mind bothering. But i guess it was worth bothering my mind cuz we got to hang out. Then she took me to an organic products store. She likes scented tea. I joked she liked smelly tea lol. After that, we walked all the way back to the skytrain. There's a stand selling necklaces and bracelets. Something embarrassing happened. I didn't have cash to buy her the necklace she liked. I think she wanted me to buy it for her, and I felt I should do so, but I didn't have cash, only some change. In the end, i gave what i had, 3 bucks and she pitched in what she got, 2 bucks. I realized it's better to carry some cash. Normally, I just don't wanna bother to take cash from the bank, but I guess its better to be prepared when you hang out with girls... Good lesson. She also went to check out some clothes stores, and I followed. Going to clothes stores with girls is just not a fun thing for men LOL aka, men were not born to window shop. That was the afternoon. It was fun. She said she had fun. This evening, I had my first voice lesson. It was freaking expensive, $23/ 30 mins. But well, all music related lessons are like this in north america. I think my teacher seems cool, she taught breathing today and some basic ascending and descending. Hope I'd become different and do well in the choir re-audition in Aug. Oh one good thing is she says my voice is nice and pure, and assumed i fit quite well in the choir. HAHA, that's a nice thing to hear, though I don't know if I did fit in well or not in the last months. Voice lessons are gonna be a not small expense, man, gotta save money! One of my favorite choir songs: (but dont relate me to jesus, i aint his fan :P |
